A Man Accidentally Showed Up To The Wrong Wedding And Stayed For The Entire Reception
He danced. He gave a toast. He cried during the first dance. He ate the fish. He left before anyone figured it out.
Derek Paulson of Columbus, Ohio, was invited to his coworker's wedding last month. He drove to the venue listed in the calendar invite, parked, walked in, grabbed a glass of champagne from a passing tray, and spent the next four hours at the wedding of two complete strangers named Brittany and Kwame, who had a beautiful ceremony and an open bar.
"The vibes were very similar to what I expected," Derek told us. "Everyone seemed happy to see me. I figured I just didn't recognize people because I'm bad with faces." He danced during the reception, including once with the bride's grandmother, who told him he had "very nice energy." He ate the salmon entrΓ©e despite preferring the chicken, because he got to the table late and didn't want to make a fuss. He cried during the first dance because "the song choice was really thoughtful."
It was during the toast that things clarified. Derek stood when the best man said "will all the people who've known Kwame for more than a decade please stand," and then sat down again very slowly when he realized the math didn't work. He slipped out during the hora, leaving a card that read "Congratulations on finding each other β it shows." Brittany and Kwame have since reached out and invited him to their one-year anniversary party. He has confirmed his attendance. This time he checked the address twice.
